finally

Ink, pigments, encaustic, organza, and stitch on paper

About a year ago, I saw this scrap of paper in my studio and loved how the inks had merged. I mounted it on 4” x 6” cradled board (shown on left below) so I could hang it on my studio wall. It reminded me of The Divine (shown on right below), a piece I made years ago . . .and of paintings I made 30 years ago.

Now, almost a year later, some new work along those lines emerged. It feels like I am coming back to some ideas I tried decades ago with more knowledge of materials (and life). I’m excited to keep working on these pieces.

teaching

Next April, I’m going to teach a three-day course on making small pieces in a series thanks to Bellissima Art Escapes. The owner, Kathie Vezzani, has a beautiful studio in Port Orchard, WA, USA and has been running art retreats for a long time. She makes it easy for me. She provides the space, a lot of the supplies, three lunches and one dinner.

My mind is happily spinning with ideas – and I’m excited about it. I’ve been making small pieces for decades and can’t wait to share some of my processes. There’s space for twelve people and I hope you’ll be able to join me.

gifts

framed small pieces

I’ve framed some of my favorite small pieces and posted them for sale thinking they might make nice holiday gifts.

blind face drawings

This month I also started making one “blind face drawing” per day. I close my eyes; with one hand I touch my face and with the other I draw. I color them with eyes open. They make me smile and somehow capture a corner of me each day. I’ve mounted some on 4” x 6” cradled board and coat them in varnish. I’ve posted some of my favorites for sale.

tulip petals

I also posted the tulip petals. I love them. They are a breath of fresh air and the nicest compliment I received on them is that they caught the soul of tulips. Right now, I have them lined up on a shelf in my studio. Fun.

shop art

We’re heading into family time and year-end celebrations. Thank you for all your support this past year – it means the world to me. I wish you the very best throughout the holiday season.

Warmly,
