process

This year the fall colors have been more spectacular than usual due to warmer, dryer weather in October. They are still glowing.

Autumn leaf color mania struck again.

It reminds me of tulip season when all I can think about is the delicacy and color of tulip petals.

I deserted my black, white, and sienna and gulped at color.

My first attempt had me working in this series of simple, folded, encaustic and ink pieces. I kept them up on my wall for several weeks. Intriguing. I may come to back them but the color wasn’t quite right for what I wanted to capture.

I went back to color mixing. Experimenting - nothing quite right.

It’s easiest for me to mix colors with acrylic paint but I don’t like the plastic feel it leaves on the surface.

Ah! I found an acrylic additive, Golden Wetting Aid, that allows the paint to soak into the washi paper almost like ink.

I painted more strips.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten this month.

I’m not sure how or even if these experiments will come together into the larger pieces that seem to want to bloom. We’ll see what happens.

Sometimes things take more time than we think. It’s just part of the process.

In the meantime, I kept making small pieces and here are a few I love.
